Getting the Most out of Your Gameplay

World of Warcraft is a very competitive game because when it comes to online gameplay, no one seems to want to help you. Especially in a game designed to place two factions at war with each other, you're going to be on your own for the most part. I know I was when I first started out.

When I first started playing World of Warcraft:
- Everyone hated me for asking newbie questions or trying to obtain general information.
- My spellbar was all messed up and wasn't set up for optimum performance.
- I was using the wrong spec, the wrong gems, the wrong gear and didn't even know what a rotation was.
- I was never invited to raids or World PvP groups because I wasn't an "expert" in my class and didn't know what I was doing.

So if you're brand new to the game, I can tell you first hand, we've all been there.

Your Spec:
This is going to be the first and foremost thing you're going to look at. Now while Mists of Pandaria is going to change the specs and process substantially, we're still in Cataclysm and your spec is still very important. There are hundreds of websites out there to help you choose the proper spec but you have to figure out what you want to do first.
Do you want to heal?
Do you want to tank?
Do you want to do damage?
Ask yourself these three questions before ultimately choosing a spec.

Your Gear:
You will have two primary stats that you're aiming for. Everyone wants the Stamina stat because it adds life and will help you survive longer.

Warriors: Strength And Stamina
Death Knights: Strength And Stamina
Druids: Agility And Stamina (If you're Feral), Intellect And Stamina (If You're Restoration Or Balance)
Priests: Intellect And Stamina
Hunters: Agility And Stamina
Rogues: Agility And Stamina
Shamans: Agility And Stamina (If You're Enhancement), Intellect And Stamina (If You're Restoration Or Elemental)
Monks: Agility And Stamina (If You're Brewmaster Or Windwalker), Intellect And Stamina (If You're Mistweaver)
Paladin: Strength And Stamina (If You're Protection Or Retribution), Intellect And Stamina (If You're Holy)
Mage: Intellect And Stamina
Warlock: Intellect And Stamina

Gems:
Which gems you should be equipping will be depending on your spec and your current gear. As a general guide though, if you're brand new, follow the basic stats that you're supposed to wear outlined above.

PvP:
PvP stands for Player Versus Player and is very competitive. The most common forms of PvP in World of Warcraft are Battlegrounds. You can publicly join Battlegrounds and you'll be teamed up with 10, 15, 20 or 40 other players dependning on the battleground. Here are a few PvP tips to help you survive:

- It's all about controlling the enemy, and not just crushing your opponent with maximum DPS. You need to use effects that slow the enemy, make the enemy run in fear and put them where you want them.
- There's a specialized gear for PvP that has a stat called "Resilience". What this does is allows you to take more damage and lose less health as a result.
- There're specialized talents and specs in your spec tree for PvP as well. Look through your spec tree and look for the talents that offer you damage reduction and movement impairing reduction. These are talents you'll want to pick up.

We hope this guide has given you a basic insight to PvP gameplay and to how to better your character!
